Thơ | Remembering My Great Uncle Ông Chín

Patrick and Victoria Nguyễn

My Great Uncle Ong Chin
I see tears of others on the floor,
I hear people moaning on the streets,
I feel their pain like a needle,
I taste my salty tears.
I smell the leaves of newly grown sapling,
I miss my uncle…
Tears run down my cheeks, as I think about my uncle Ong Chin…
I see him in the stars up above,
As I look at the sun, I feel warm rays of his love.
When it rains I see his face,
When it’s cloudy, I see him smile.
When it’s snowing I feel his hands wrapped around me when I sleep…
When it’s windy he looks down at me.
He’s my great uncle… Ong Chin.

Remembering My Great Uncle Ninth

I am a person who follows my Great Uncle Ninth (Bishop), who helps others
I wonder what lies ahead for my future, as well as others’
I hear the quiet drips of rain on the windowsill.
I see a dying star, striving to glow
I want to follow him to create something that will benefit all mankind
I am a person who follows my Great Uncle Ninth (Bishop), who helps others
I pretend to go beyond what is known to people in outer space
I feel the warm rays of the sun beating on me as I run across a field
I touch the cold, dusty snow in the highest mountains of the world
I worry about what might happen to people because of hatred between them
I cry for the lost souls in wars because of hatred
I am a person who follows my Great Uncle Ninth (Bishop), who helps others
I understand the universe of God’s creation
I believe everything has a place where it belongs
I dream about past events that could have been better
I try to make people happy when I can, like my Great Uncle Ninth (Bishop)
I hope for a time when everything could just be calm
I am sure that he’s in Heaven now and looking down at us
I am a person who follows my Great Uncle Ninth (Bishop), who helps others
